A new Medical Profession Act, Nurses and Midwives Act and the Food Safety Act have been passed in the Dominican Parliament.

Minister for Health Cassani Laville, who presented the bills in Parliament, said the Medical Profession Act will ensure health practitioners become more accountable and aims to protect the integrity of Dominica’s health care system.

Meantime, Laville says the Nurses and Midwives Act is not punitive but seeks to enhance the environment for all nurses and midwives in Dominica.

He says the act will also serve to protect the public’s interest.   

Mr Laville says the Food Safety Act seeks to protect food handlers and the general public.
