The Dominica Air and Seaport Authority has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of stevedore Otis Francis on the morning of July 17.
Francis was from the community of Tarish Pit and employed as a stevedore for the past 8 years.
He was assisting with cargo loading operation at Woodbridge Bay port when he sustained fatal injuries after being struck by a shipping container at around 12.3O in the morning.
A statement from the Dominica Air and Seaport Authority says throughout his service, Mr Francis demonstrated dedication, commitment and a strong work ethic that earned him respect and appreciation of his colleagues and those with whom he worked and interacted in the course of his employment.
The statement added that his contributions to the operations of the port and the wider maritime community will be remembered with gratitude.
The Dominica Air and Seaport Authority added that it extends sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr Otis Francis on his passing and expresses sympathies to his relatives, friends and fellow employees.
The Dominica Air and Seaport Authority says while no words can truly ease the pain of such a sudden and great loss, it hopes the Francis family will find strength in the love and support of those around them and comfort in the cherished memories of his life and legacy.
DASPA says it joins the family and the wider community in mourning the loss of Mr Otis Francis and prays that Almighty God grants all of them peace, comfort and courage in the days ahead.
