Petite Soufriere farmer named Dominica’s 2024 Farmer of the Year.

A Petite Soufriere farmer Colmore Shillingford has been named Dominica’s 2024 Farmer of the Year.

Mr. Shillingford who farms at Ti Gwafond in Grandfond and Rosalie operates 5.5 acres of bananas, three quarter acre of dasheen, plantain, cucumber, tania, eggplant and seasoned pepper.

Mr. Shillingford picked up the Farmer of the Year Award during the Ministry of Agriculture awards ceremony for farmers and fisherfolk and others in the Sector last night.

Clinton Leblanc was named fisher folk of the year, Akim Alexander of Mahaut is young fisher folk of the year.

Thomas Etienne of Delices was named the Most Innovative and Technology Driven Farmer of the Year.

Mr. Etienne has used technology in the production of bay oil.

The Award for Youth in Sustainable Agriculture for the year went to Syan Alexander, while Helena Letang Williams is Woman in Sustainable Farming of the Year.

Big G’s Pepper Sauce was named Agro Processor of the Year, Singoalla Blomqvist Williams Livestock Farmer of the Year and Nathaniel Lovelle Bee Keeper of the Year were among the awards presented last night.
