Head of the Plant Protection and Quarantine unit warns that Lethal Yellowing Disease continues to threaten the coconut sub-sector

Head of the Plant Protection and Quarantine unit, Dayan Stoute Abraham, says the Lethal Yellowing Disease remains a threat to the coconut sub-sector, particularly in the Woodford Hill area.

She says over 12, OOO coconut trees have been destroyed to contain the spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the Dominica National Conservation Trust Fund and Caribbean Biodiversity Fund presented over 93, OOO US dollars to the Ministry of Agriculture and Oceans Forward Dominica to embark on two projects.

The funds to the Ministry of Agriculture are for measures to contain the Lethal Yellowing disease, while Oceans Forward Dominica will develop coral reefs in Soufriere.

He says the biodiversity project to be implemented in the Soufriere area is important for the restoration of the coral reef.
