Dominica’s geothermal energy project has won the Best Caribbean Energy Project award at the 2026 Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF), earning regional recognition for the country’s efforts to advance renewable energy.
Dominica also received the Best Financing Programme award, while Energy Minister Dr Vince Henderson was presented with the Caribbean Energy Leadership MVP Industry Award.
Dr Henderson accepted the honours at CREF 2026, held in Panama City, Panama, from 14 to 16 October.

The recognition comes as Dominica’s geothermal power plant at Laudat in the Roseau Valley has been completed and is supplying electricity to the national grid.
The 10-megawatt facility entered commercial operation in July 2026, following the completion of the required testing. The development marks a significant milestone in Dominica’s pursuit of greater energy independence.
The Best Financing Programme award recognizes the investment strategy and partnerships that helped deliver the renewable energy project in a small island developing state.
Meanwhile, the leadership award acknowledges Dr Henderson’s contribution to advancing Dominica’s geothermal ambitions and guiding the project through the complex processes of development, financing and delivery.
