Psychiatrist Urges Caribbean to Review Legal Age for Alcohol and Marijuana Use

Consultant psychiatrist at the Acute Psychiatric Unit, Dr. Nadia Wallace, is calling on Dominica and other Caribbean territories to review the legal age at which young people are permitted to purchase or consume alcohol and marijuana.

Dr. Wallace says regional countries should consider emulating a recent approach adopted by Trinidad and Tobago as part of efforts to address substance use among young people.

Dr. Wallace made the call as the Acute Psychiatric Unit organised activities to mark World Mental Health Day, which was observed on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
