Second Annual Environmental Essay Competition Launched for Secondary Schools and DSC
The Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC), has officially launched the second annual Environmental Essay Competition for secondary schools across the island, including the Dominica State College.
This year’s competition features age-appropriate topics designed to deepen students’ understanding of environmental issues. First to third form students will address “The Circular Economy,” while fourth and fifth form students will explore “The Intersectionality of Environmentalism.” Students of the Dominica State College will tackle the topic “Smart Cities vs Green Spaces.”
Public Relations Officer of the DSWMC, Rhoda St. John, noted that the competition offers meaningful benefits to both students and their schools, encouraging research, critical thinking, and environmental stewardship.

Meanwhile, Acting Chief Education Officer Nadia Ferrol praised the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation for its continued leadership and commitment to fostering environmental awareness and responsibility among the nation’s youth.
