Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture Jullan Defoe says Dominica’s white potatoes sector has addressed significant challenges within the country’s agriculture sector.
Agricultural technicians from St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, and Grenada are meeting in Dominica for a regional capacity-building workshop focused on strengthening white potato production and marketing across the Eastern Caribbean.
The three-day workshop forms part of ongoing efforts to reduce the region’s dependence on imported food, while increasing local production and competitiveness.

Meantime, Director General of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States OECS Dr. Didacus Jules, says the development of the white potatoes sector within the OECS is in line with the OECS FAST Strategy.

The workshop is a collaborative effort with support from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).
