Michel “Sweet Mikey” Martelly will Clinton in D.C. today along with heads of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
Martelly is set to assume the Presidency on May 14 providing his poll victory is confirmed today. He beat former first lady Mirlande Manigat in a March 20 run-off election after a months-long electoral process marked by violence and allegations of fraud.
Martelly has said that in his first six months as president he will focus on moving people out of tents, the cholera epidemic and boosting the country’s agricultural production.
The daunting task ahead is rebuilding the country even as the international community continues to deliver just a fraction of the aid promised for reconstruction following the January 2010 earthquake.
